Gotham Triumphs in Wine Advocate Reviews
In December 2010 Robert Parker Jnr’s Wine Advocate publication reviewed South Australian wines. Over 700 wines were reviewed and Gotham rated very highly across the board, especially in the value for money stakes.
Gotham Old Vine Mataro 2007 - 94 points; Number 1 best value 94 point wine
Gotham Old Vine Shiraz 2007 - 93 points; Number 1 best value 93 point wine
Gotham Old Vine “Salmagundi” 2008 - 92 points; Number 1 best value 92 point wine
Gotham Langhorne Creek Shiraz 2009 - 90 points; Number 1 best value 90 point wine
Gotham Langhorne Creek Cabernet 2009 - 90 points; Number 2 best value 90 point wine
Gotham Clare Valley Riesling 2009 - 90 points was Number 3 best value 90 point wine
Gotham Old Vine Grenache 2007 – 90 points; ranked #12 best value 90 point wine
This is a great honour and on top of the extraordinary success of the “Wine Men of Gotham” series being the only four sub $10 wines recommended and the WMoG Shiraz receiving 88 points which is punching well above it weight.
Could we be so bold as to say Gotham is rated Australia’s best " Value for Money" wine brand rated by the Wine Advocate?? Wow this is beyond our wildest dreams given the relative importance of Robert Parker in terms of the wine world.
Gotham has more 90+ point wines than brands like Duval (3), Jim Barry (4), Kilikanoon (5), Majella (5), Kalleske (6) and equal to Greenock Creek (7), Grant Burge (7), and Rusden (7). These are some of the eminent South Australian wine companies and we are very proud to even be considered in their company.
Gotham Leads on Value
No Critter Wines In Our Camp
A Note From Executive Winemaker Bruce Clugston
When you set out do something right it is so rewarding to be recognised for doing it right! Here at Gotham we strive to deliver the best quality wine at an approachable price. Our mantra; we bottle wines people want and can afford to drink!
Value categories have become increasingly significant in the wine review journals in recent times, and in the cheaper end of the market which is swamped with product the consumer could do with a helping hand. The Wine Advocate (aka Robert Parker) rate thousands of wines each year and come up with a short list of the “Best Value Wines” in their October issue. The first criterion is that the wine must sell under $25USD, and second criterion is it must represent true value.
The current Australian wines reviewer for the Wine Advocate is Lisa Perotti-Brown MW. I met Lisa in Baltimore in July this year and found her to be extremely personable and very diligent in her approach. We tasted a flight of 16 Gotham wines and I am very please to say all 13 (of the wines that sell for under $25) made the value for money cut.
Overall only 4 of all the wines reviewed under $10 were “Wholeheartedly recommended” by Lisa, and they were all our “Wine Men of Gotham” wines. The Wine Men of Gotham Shiraz leading the way with a score of 88 points.
It has been the core principle of Gotham Wines to make wines that consumers love to drink and wines that deliver value under $15 and $10. We are very proud that we have been recognised for this achievement.
This of course comes on top of 4.5 stars from James Halliday and our StepXStep (SXS) 2008 Shiraz being voted in the Top 100 “Best Buys” of 2010 from over 7,000 wines judged by Wine and Spirits Magazine.
2008 Wine Men of Gotham Shiraz = 88 points
#1 rated wine under $10
The 2008 Wine Men of Gotham Shiraz gives a deep garnet-purple colour and pronounced black cherry and
blackberry notes plus a bit of tar and anise. Medium-high acid and some grainy tannins give good structure to
the concentrated medium to full-bodied, ripe berry flavours and it finishes long. Drink it now to 2015.

2009 Gotham Langhorne Creek Shiraz = 90 points
Equal #1 rated wine under $15
The 2009 Shiraz comes from 40-year-old vines located in Langhorne Creek. Deep garnet-purple coloured, it
begins with some reduction notes that soon give way to intense blackberry and warm black cherry notes with
some black pepper, a pinch of dried Mediterranean herbs and a whiff of loam. The full bodied palate is a little
tight with firm, fine tannins, crisp acid and restrained fruit that will probably need another six months to blossom. It
has a good, long finish. Drink it 2012 to 2017. . Lisa Perotti-Brown “Wine Advocate”
2009 Gotham Langhorne Creek Cabernet = 90 points
Equal #1 rated wine under $15
The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon gives a deep garnet-purple colour and incredibly fragrant, lifted blackberry and
blackcurrant scents with complementary notes of spice box, wilted rose petals and a bit of mint. Crisp acidity and
a medium-firm level of very fine tannins structure and harmonize the full bodied, lush fruit on the palate, leading
to a long savoury finish. Drinking now, it should keep to 2016+. . Lisa Perotti-Brown “Wine Advocate”
2009 Gotham Clare Valley Riesling = 90 points
Equal #1 rated wine under $15
Selling at under US$15, the 2009 Riesling is a triumph! Coming from 25-year-old Clare Valley vines, it reveals
intense lime juice, honeysuckle, orange blossom and beeswax notes with a touch of petrol character. Dry and
refreshingly crisp, this wine has light to medium body and a long finish. Drink it now to 2015+. . Lisa Perotti-

2008 Mastermind Tumbarumba Chardonnay = 90 points
Equal #1 rated wine under $15
Mastermind-s 2008 The Queen Chardonnay was 50% barrel fermented and matured in new French oak. It gives
intense pineapple, apricot, green mango and cream aromas with a bit of toast and meal. Crisp with a full body
and alcohol knocking-on 15%, this wine possesses incredible freshness and balance, finishing long. This is an
absolute bargain from this young, high altitude/cooler climate region - an area to watch for Chardonnays! Drink it
now to 2014+. . Lisa Perotti-Brown “Wine Advocate”
